About Zion Baptist Church

Zion Baptist, as it is more familiarly known, is an independent church based in the south side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland.

What makes Zion Baptist unique?

We are Calvinistic, Evangelical and Separatist. We believe that God should be worshipped fully and freely, and in addition to this, we are a prayerful church.

Calvinistic

Doctrines of Grace

We believe in the Doctrines of Grace, known as “Calvinism”. We believe that Salvation is a work of grace, and has nothing to do with man’s free will or good works. Sermons on the Doctrines of Grace can be downloaded from this website.

Separation

Not just a Doctrine

Separation for us is not a doctrine but a reality. We stand on the Bible alone, and have no connection with any tradition or organisation that operates outside the Word of God. We are Bible Protestants and are opposed to Ecumenism. We practice the baptism of believing adults by full emersion, but we are not part of the Baptist Union.

Free Worship

We believe in the exaltation of Jesus Christ in every form

Unlike many churches that subscribe to the Doctrines of Grace known as "Calvinism", we also hold to the belief that "signs and wonders" should follow the preaching of the word of God. We at Zion believe in the exaltation of Jesus Christ in every form whether it is music or dance, prayer or preaching. You will find that with two services on a Sunday, each lasting about two hours, the emphasis is at all times on the preaching of the Word of God, which takes up at least half of each service. This is no "happy, clappy" charismatic phenomenon but a deeply spiritual, God centred ministry.

Prayer

At Zion we believe in the power of prayer

There are two "official" church prayer meetings, one on Wednesday which is a prayer and preaching meeting, and one on Friday which is a prayer meeting for revival. On top of these meetings there are various informal prayer times that take place before meetings. Our prayer meetings are filled enthusiastic faith filled prayers, and over the years we have seen many answers to prayer. As well as the heavy focus on corporate prayer, members of Zion Baptist Church are deeply encouraged to develop their own personal prayer life with God.

This is a healthy church with a firm foundation on the truth of God. We look forward to meeting you when you come to worship with us.

Gospel Outreach

Every Saturday night (7pm), Sunday afternoon (2pm) and Tuesday lunchtime, by God’s grace, the members of Zion Baptist Church venture into the Open Air to hold a Gospel witness to God’s glory! In Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street respectively, we stand as a testimony to God’s saving and keeping power, and during the former we play and sing gospel music as well as operate a soup kitchen for the homeless.

Soup Kitchen

We offer tracts to those who pass by as we testify publicly of how Jesus entered into our lives, and has made us new creatures in Christ through his precious blood. Never without incident and always with God’s blessing, we count it a privilege and honour to stand for Christ in such an evil day. Quite simply the gospel is the answer! We are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth Romans 1v16.
